Driving
Please note that Independence Pass is closed between about Halloween and Memorial Day! It’s very time consuming to backtrack from Twin Lakes in the winter, so please check https://www.codot.gov/projects/SH82/independence-pass/independence-pass-travel-information.html if you are interested in driving this Scenic and Historic Byway.
Our guests have free access to our underground parking garage. Use of garage is first come, first served; other guests will receive permits for on-street parking.
From the West
Exit Interstate 70 at Glenwood Springs. Follow state highway 82 south about 40 miles to Aspen. Approaching Aspen, you’ll pass our airport, Buttermilk Ski Mountain, and golf courses on each side of the highway. Continue on through the Roundabout into Aspen proper. Coming along the straight stretch of Main Street, turn right at the first stoplight: Aspen Street. If you miss it, you may also turn right at Monarch Street. Go four blocks and turn left on Durant Avenue. The Mountain Chalet Aspen will be on your right side in the second block. Park at the front door, come in and we’ll help you get settled in!
From the East
In winter, exit Interstate 70 at Glenwood Springs. Follow state highway 82 south about 40 miles to Aspen. Approaching Aspen, you’ll pass our airport, Buttermilk ski mountain, and golf courses on each side of the highway. Continue on through the Roundabout into Aspen proper. Coming along the straight stretch of Main Street, turn right at the first stoplight: Aspen Street. If you miss it, you may also turn right at Monarch Street. Go four blocks and turn left on Durant Avenue. The Mountain Chalet Aspen will be on your right side in the second block. Park at the front door, come in and we’ll be happy to meet you.
In summer, you may exit Interstate 70 at number 195 to Copper Mountain. Follow state highway 91 south about 23 miles to Leadville. This highway joins highway 24 in Leadville. Follow the signs through Leadville. You’ll see signs for Buena Vista and Salida but you will turn right about 15 miles further. Here you will meet highway 82 which will bring you up over the Continental Divide through fabulous scenery on winding, narrow roads. Please consult https://www.codot.gov/projects/SH82/independence-pass/independence-pass-travel-information.html if you are unsure about weather conditions or driving in the mountains.
Approaching Aspen, you’ll finally come to a stop sign near the town center. Turn left here on Original Street, go one block to Durant Avenue, and turn right. After the fourth block, you’ll see the Mountain Chalet Aspen at the corner of Mill Street and Durant Avenue. Come in and begin your visit!
Flying
Shuttle Service: We provide a courtesy shuttle service to and from the Aspen airport. During the ski season an the peak summer season, the hours of operation are 8 AM – 8 PM. At other times the shuttle hours are 8 AM – 5 PM. Please make reservations in advance by emailing us at FrontDesk@MountainChalet.us. If you do not make a reservation, we cannot guarantee shuttle availability.
